When are the bulb fields in bloom?

Maybe it is good to know when the bulb fields are actually in bloom. It is difficult to predict the exact flowering period: it varies per season and depends on the weather. The early bloomers are the daffodils. From the end of March to mid-April, the bulb fields of Sint Maartenszee and Petten are dominated by daffodils. They usually start blooming from the end of March.  After this, it is the turn of the fragrant hyacinths. You can smell that wonderful scent from the beginning to the end of April. The tulips are the last to bloom and are usually at their best from mid-April to early May.
We are proud that the largest contiguous flower bulb area in the world is located in the north of Noord-Holland. The area on the coast from Petten – Sint Maartenszee to Den Helder is transformed into one large beautiful colorful bulb field in the spring.

Bloeiend Zijpe

One of the highlights in our area is the Bloeiende Zijpe event. Especially the colorful cycling and walking tours through the Zijpepolder are unique. During the Bloeiende Zijpe cycling and walking day, flower bulb growers give permission to cycle or walk across their farm bulb land.

Flower bulb wagon

Floratuin Julianadorp

Pick yourself a colorful bouquet of tulips at the Floratuin in Julianadorp. During Kleurrijk Julianadorp, a lot of activities are organized that focus on the tulip: from a walking day to workshops and fun excursions.
